Gross Retail Sales: Income can be viewed in several ways and under different definitions. Per capita income tends to have a direct relationship with the growth of gross sales and most service sector industries in an area. Gross sales for the region estimated by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts were $345,546,935 in the 1st quarter 2007 which represented an increase of 27.9 percent to $442,041,123.00 by the 1st quarter 2008. The statewide change for the same period was an increase of 18.3 percent in gross sales. The total number of reporting outlets for the same period was 1,047 in the 1st quarter 2007 and 1,032 in the 1st quarter 2008. This region had a decrease of -1.4 percent in the study area compared to the statewide change for the same period of an increase of 0.9 percent.
