If you didn't attend the "Shrimp Boil" and Member Appreciation last night at First State Bank Conference
Center, you missed a BLAST! ................There were approximately 150 people there. Thanks to First
State Bank for sponsoring this event. The food and entertainment was superb!  John Metzler and Jim
Goldsworthy did a great job cooking the shrimp, sausage, etc. Thanks to NCTC Jazz Band for the
music. On behalf of those who won..thanks to First State Bank for the great door prizes! WE DO
APPRECIATE OUR MEMBERS!
We want to welcome our new members this week. They are:
Purdy Embroidery, 701 E. Main, Gainesville. The new owner of Purdy Embroidery is Steven Tefertiller.
Forsythe Transportation, 1001 Main St., Gainesville. William Forsythe is the CEO. They are a school
bus contractor.
Certain Music, 2201 Forestcrest Dr., Plano, TX. J Rand Certain is a violin teacher and also sells violins
and other instruments. Lessons are by appointment only.  If you are interested in violin lessons,
please call him at 469-671-6078 (cell #).
CHAMBER AMBASSADORS....A ribbon cutting has been scheduled for DRY CLEAN SUPER CENTER,
1001 E. California, Thursday, September 27 at 10:00a.m. Dave Hampton will give a tour of the facility
and have drawings for free dry cleaning for those who attend.
We will be having a Breakfast Mixer at the Lake Kiowa Lodge, Thursday, October 4th, at 7:30am.
Invitations for this event will go out this week.
!!!!!DON'T FORGET!!!! Please get your Christmas events to us so that we can put them on our Holiday
Calendar of Events. We will start compiling that soon. We will also be glad to post them on our
Chamber website.
We respectfully ask that those who use our meeting room after hours, please do not "help themselves"
to whatever is in the refrigerator or anything else. Especially if it is a large group. If you do, please
replace it. We have people who put water, etc. in there for their event and then when they get here it is
gone.
We are still accepting applications for the 2007/2008 LEADERSHIP GAINESVILLE CLASS.  The first
class is Wednesday, Oct. 10th. The class will consist of a maximum of 20 participants. Applicants
must live or work in Cooke County. This class will meet the second Wednesday of each month and is
an all day class. Each month the focus will be on different aspects of the community, i.e city and county
government, education, etc. There is a tuition of $225.00 for the class. The tuition covers meals
(breakfast snacks and a full lunch), instructional materials, honorariums, overnight trip to Austin and
other miscellaneous expenses. We are currently up to about 13 applicants. If you plan on going
through this class, PLEASE GET YOUR APPLICATION TURNED IN. We will be glad to fax one to you if
you don't already have one. The tuition must be received at the Chamber office by October 1, 2007.

Step on board as the 21st annual Depot Day celebration rolls into the Courthouse Square of
downtown Gainesville on Saturday, October 13, 2007 beginning at 10:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.
"After Dark" Live Entertainment to begin at 6:00 p.m. Me and My Monkey, Beatles Cover Band begins at
8:00 p.m. Hosted by the Main Street Program of the City of Gainesville. Entertainment for the whole
family awaits visitors to this celebration.  Look for the following attractions:
Antique car show---Musical entertainment throughout the day---Kids Zone with inflatables---Western
town with gunfighters & wagon rides-Arts & crafts vendors---Festival Foods---The Fun of Preservation
through Archeology---Inaugural Legends and Lore Walking Tour---"After Dark" Live Entertainment on

OCTOBER ZOO EVENTS:
Saturday, October 6-FEED A BEAST A FEAST-8:30-10:00 am. The Zoo's Animal Care Staff will
demonstrate their culinary skills in exotica animal enrichment. Small groups will follow zookeepers on
their morning rounds. Then relax and enjoy a continental human breakfast on the Zoo's dining deck.
Cost is $8 for adults and $6 for children 8-12 years of age. No children under 8, please.
